News

We know that teens are not willing to share a lot of information about school with their parents. That can make it difficult to know what is going on at school. You can rest easy knowing we’ve included the most important information for you here on our news page. Check in frequently as we update this page often for you.

Fall Sports Update

New Modified Schedule

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our world. Due to the high COVID-19 rates within our district boundaries, it is not safe to reopen our campuses to in-person learning at this time.

We have done our very best to provide high quality virtual learning for our students. We realize that online learning can be mentally taxing and stressful for our students. Students are overwhelmed and frustrated with looking at a screen all day and missing the social interactions they crave. Screen fatigue is affecting students ability to learn and impacting their grades.

In an effort to reduce screen fatigue, improve student academic achievement, and meet the social emotional needs of our students, Tolleson Union High School District schools will implement a new modified schedule beginning on Monday, September 14. The new schedule will ensure that all students have the support they need for academic success in all their classes and increase social-emotional support for our students during the COVID-19 closures. The school day is not being shortened, and students are expected to participate in a full day of learning. The school day will remain the same length. This schedule allows for a one-hour lunch break followed by two hours after lunch for homework time and learning support for targeted interventions. Teachers will provide learning support to their students with set office hours each afternoon that will include targeted interventions focusing on working with struggling and failing students, working with students that have not been logging on during class time, and enrichment opportunities such as honors, AP, FAFSA, etc.. Additional Title I tutoring will be offered daily for two hours at the end of the school day. We believe that this new schedule will go a long way towards improving students ability to concentrate, do their school work, and have opportunities for learning supports at the end of the school day provided by our excellent and caring teachers.

Please take a moment to read Superintendent Nora Gutierrez's complete letter below regarding our new modified schedule.
